You have probably thought to yourself “How was the Great Barrier Reef formed?” well read below and we will tell you how!!!

 Well, the Great Barrier Reef is made up of smaller reefs which is a buildup of coral, sand and rocks (which are underwater). Coral Reefs are only found in shallow, warm and clean tropical waters. The first layer of the reef sits only two or three feet under sea level and these reefs can grow as big as 250 feet below sea level!

 Reefs that are about the same size of the Great Barrier Reef can take up t0 thousands of years to develop because most of the coral can take just 1 year to only grow two inches or even 5 centimeters! So be careful and don’t step on any of the corals at the Great Barrier Reef because it is very, very precious and can take about 10-15 years to replace it!
